Singtel incubator aims to drive change

Telecommunications firm Singapore Telecommunications’ incubator, Enabling Change, concluded today with six startups graduating from the program with S$10,000 ($7,000) each.

The incubator ran for five months and was operated jointly by Singapore Telecommunications, which provided the funding, and incubator Unframed. It focused on social impact companies that were given access to partner organisations, non-profits and industry experts.

Enabling Change culminated with a pitch event in front of 20 investors.

Participating startups included AbleThrive, the developer of a platform with curated content aimed at helping people with a disability live a better life, and Be-Lift, an events portal for activities specifically adjusted to the needs of people with disabilities.

BevEat has built a digital wallet and mobile point of sales tool for the food and beverage and retail sectors that makes it easier for disabled employees to serve customers.

Colhero has built a website that aggregates fashion items, including welfare products, from other e-commerce companies, enabling customers to purchase clothes from variety of sources through a single interface.

PsychKick has developed a mobile platform that helps users fight mental conditions, offering a digital assistant to ensure patients and psychotherapists remain engaged in between sessions.

TheseAbilities offers a range of products to make technology accessible to everyone, including those with disabilities.

Andrew Buay, vice-president of group corporate social responsibility and talent coach at Singapore Telecommunications, said: “At Singtel, we believe that technology has the potential to positively change the lives and employability of people with disabilities.

“Therefore, we are building the ecosystem, and supporting young change makers in their efforts to create impact for the disabled community through technology and innovation.”
