DeePoon, a China-based virtual reality (VR) headset and content developer, has raised $30m in a series B round co-led by downloading software provider Xunlei, Technode reported on Saturday.
The round, which Xunlei co-led with Kaiying Network Technology, valued DeePoon at approximately RMB800m ($122m).
Founded in April 2015 with a seed investment from digital marketing company Hollysh totalling “several dozen million RMB,” DeePoon produces head-mounted VR devices compatible with PCs and mobile platforms.
The company also runs a VR content distribution platform called 3Dbobo it claims has more than 1.5 million users.
Xunlei began life as a peer-to-peer file sharing service before legitimising its business and expanding into video services. Post-investment, DeePoon and Xunlei will collaborate on technology, cloud services, platform construction and game development.
The series B round follows an undisclosed amount of series A funding provided by Doublesafeguard in October 2015.
