Intercom, a US-based communications platform developer backed by internet company Digital Garage, raised $50m in series C1 funding today in a round led by venture capital firm Index Ventures.
Bessemer Venture Partners, Iconiq Capital and Social Capital also took part in the C1 round, which adds to the $35m initial series C close achieved in August 2015. The first tranche was led by Iconiq Capital and included Social Capital and Bessemer.
Founded in 2011, Intercom has created a platform through which businesses can communicate with consumers through a company’s own website or app as well as email and Facebook Messenger. The software combines a range of products aimed at sales, marketing, product and support teams.
Intercom has raised $116m to date and expects to reach profitability in the near future. Digital Garage took part in a $1m seed round in 2012 alongside 500 Startups and assorted angel investors.
The company’s other backers include Freestyle Capital, which contributed funds to a $6m series A round in 2013.
