GV goes to Weaveworks in $15m round

GV, the corporate venturing unit formerly known as Google Ventures, led a $15m series B round on Wednesday for US-based containerised application technology developer Weaveworks.

The round also include venture capital firm Accel, which led Weaveworks’ $5m series A round in December 2014.

Founded in the UK in 2014, Weaveworks is the developer of Weave, open source software that enables users to deploy, network and manage cloud-native microservices and cloud applications on Docker containers.

Tom Hulme, general partner at GGV, said: “Complex modern infrastructures and applications require visibility, and microservices and containers are no exception. A category leader will emerge in microservices management, and Weaveworks’ traction, team and vision position them well to become that leader.

“We look forward to seeing Weaveworks use this investment to accelerate product delivery, and complete their commercial and open source stack.”

The series B funding will be put toward meeting demand for the company’s tools, as well as product development, sales and marketing.
