Intermountain hunts down Zebra for $12m round

Healthcare system Intermountain Healthcare led a $12m financing round for Israel-based clinical research and analytics technology provider Zebra Medical Vision on Wednesday that included undisclosed existing backers.

Founded in 2014, Zebra supplies large-scale, big data-equipped clinical research platforms and imaging analytics services to the healthcare industry. It plans to work with InterMountain to develop imaging algorithms that can help improve medical diagnostics and patient care.

Zebra had previously raised $8m from venture capital firms Khosla Ventures and DeepFork Capital, as well as Marc Benioff, CEO of cloud computing company Salesforce.com, as of April 2015.

Bert Zimmerli, chief financial officer of InterMountain Healthcare, said: “We are excited by the opportunities that machine learning and computer vision algorithms can provide. These tools will help us improve patient care, by analysing imaging data at a large scale for the first time, in addition to textual data.

“When we researched this field and the various technologies available, the Zebra platform approach stood out in its proven ability to digest millions of imaging files and create new algorithms rapidly.”
