Urban leaves Holtzbrinck Ventures for start-up

The former managing director at Holtzbrinck Ventures, the corporate venturing division of Germany-based media group Georg von Holtzbrinck, has left to be co-founder of a retailer sales website launching later this month.

Konstantin Urban, former head of Holtzbrinck Ventures (pictured), co-founded Urban-Brand, the company behind baby care website www.windein.de, alongside Alexander Brand and Dagmar Mahnel.

The website has just been backed by venture capital firm DN Capital and German state investment group High-Tech Gründerfonds.

Urban said: "windeln.de is positioned to become Germany’s largest online shop for baby care products.

"At launch, we will already offer more than 3,300 different products for the daily need of babies and mothers."

Urban became head of Holtzbrinck’s new media division in May 1998 and then chief executive of its internet investments in 2000.
