Kahoot, the Norway-headquartered developer of a game-based learning platform, has completed a $10m funding round featuring Microsoft Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of software provider Microsoft, ArcticStartup has reported.
Creandum led the round, which also included fellow venture capital firm Northzone. Kahoot, which was founded in 2013, has not disclosed details about its earlier funding but confirmed Microsoft Ventures and Northzone were existing investors.
Kahoot has built a platform that enables users to build educational games for mobile devices that can then be shared socially. Its online library contains more than 10 million user-created games, according to ArcticStartup.
Johan Brand, co-founder and chief executive of Kahoot, told ArcticStartup: “We had a three-year plan to become a platform (and a brand with a license to teach), now we have three years to become a format and protocol for social learning.
“This excites us all, as it has a huge potential…that made it easy to find alignment with the investors we chose in the end.”
