Greenfly, a US-based operator of a sports and media networking platform, closed a $6.2m series A round on Thursday featuring film and television content producer Mandalay Sports Media.
The round was led by investment firm Iconica Partners, which is also an investor in Mandalay, and included R/GA Ventures, the investment arm of digital advertising agency R/GA, as well as marketing agency Go4it, Elysian Park Ventures, Corazon Capital, and Tack Ventures.
Founded in 2014, Greenfly connects media companies, sports teams and sporting leagues with content creators to facilitate and manage the production and distribution of promotional videos across any television and social media channels overseen by the companies.
In August this year Greenfly took part in LA Dodgers Sports Accelerator, the accelerator for sports-related startups that is run by R/GA in partnership with baseball franchise LA Dodgers, the owners of which founded Elysian Park Ventures.
Daniel Kirschner, co-founder and chief executive of Greenfly, said the proceeds from the financing will enable the company to scale up and expand into new niches and markets.
Mark Leschly, managing director of Iconica Partners, who already serves on Mandalay’s board of directors, is joining Greenfly’s board in conjunction with the round.
