Japan-based information and communications technology producer Nihon Unisys has launched a ¥5bn ($45.3m) corporate venturing fund to invest in technology startups, Nikkei Asian Review has reported.

Nihon Unisys offers IT outsourcing, cloud computing, software development and sales, and system and network services.

The company’s target investments will include technology developers in the internet of things (IoT), robotics and financial technology sectors, as well as venture capital firms that have strengths in those spaces.

Nihon Unisys will introduce startups to contacts and will provide access to its technology in industries including artificial intelligence and IoT.

The company has not disclosed any previous corporate venturing investments but it has already participated in unnamed VC funds as a limited partner and been involved in launching hackathons and startup competitions in Silicon Valley, according to Nikkei.
