Business and philanthropic conglomerate Vulcan has hired Paul Ghaffari as chief investment officer of its corporate venturing unit.
Vulcan Capital invests in public and private securities from venture capital to buyouts and listed equities. Vulcan was founded in 1986 by Paul Allen, co-founder of software company Microsoft.
Ghaffari, 51 (pictured), was previously portfolio manager of Palatine Hill Partners, a fund focused on equity, fixed income and currency investments that he founded in January 2007, as well as Capitoline, a fund he founded in May last year to invest in global credit markets. He was a founding partner of hedge fund FrontPoint Partners from 2000 to 2006 and had previously been a portfolio manager at Soros Fund Management.
