Online real estate and home services provider Zillow Group has led a $10m series A round for US-based interior design technology developer Hutch Interiors.
Founded in 2015 as Homee, Hutch has created technology that can place filters over images of a user’s home showing furnishing and interior design ideas across a range of themes, such as Scandinavian Summer and Tropic Glam.
All the products shown through the augmented reality filters are available for purchase through Hutch. The funding will be used for product development, and in particular to improve the platform’s functionality.
Spencer Rascoff, Zillow Group’s chief executive, will join Hutch’s board of directors. He said: “A huge hurdle both renters and buyers face is envisioning themselves in a new home.
“By investing in Hutch, we are enabling breakthrough innovation that enhances online home shopping and design experiences. Hutch’s augmented reality technology has the potential to be transformative to the home shopping process and we are excited for the opportunity to help them grow.”
Hutch raised $5m in a July 2016 round featuring Founders Fund and angel investors including Sean Rad, chief executive of dating app developer Tinder. That round built on $2.2m of seed funding from various angel investors in 2015.
