India Innovation Fund, a venture capital fund backed by local companies, has made its first deal by investing R2.5 crore ($550,000) in cancer research company Mitra Biotech, according to local news provider VC Circle.
India Innovation Fund has raised R50 crore from a consortium including Tata Consultancy Services, Bharti Airtel, Icici Knowledge Park Trust and the department of science and technology.
The other two investors in Mitra are venture capital firm Accel and Kitven, a local government-backed development fund, VC Circle said. The two provided an aggregate R2.5 crore.
