Intel Capital reaches $1bn in AI investments

Intel Capital, the corporate venturing arm of chipset manufacturer Intel, has poured more than $1 billion into artificial intelligence (AI) investments, it has announced.

The figure was disclosed in a blog post by Intel CEO Brian Krzanich, who highlighted investments the unit has made in autonomous driving technology developer Mighty AI, healthcare analytics software provider Lumiata and DataRobot, a machine-learning platform for big data applications.

Intel is working on chipsets to absorb the computing burden of AI, including the Xeon range of scalable processors, and is developing vision technologies that can assist autonomous driving, through Mobileye, which the company acquired in March this year.

Krzanich said: “I believe Intel will be the AI platform of choice, offering unmatched reliability, performance, security and integration. We are 100% committed to creating the roadmap of optimised products to support emerging mainstream AI workloads.
