Mercadoni, the Colombia-based operator of a grocery e-commerce platform, has secured $9m in a series A round that included mobile commerce company Movile.
Founded in 2015, Mercadoni runs an online platform that enables customers to buy items from local stores such as grocers, delicatessens, wine shops and pet food stores that are then delivered to them at home within the hour.
The company is present in Colombia, Argentina and Mexico and plans to leverage Movile’s footprint in Latin America to expand its business. The series A funding will also support the optimisation of its service, which it aims to make more usable.
Movile CEO Fabricio Bloisi said: “In addition to the hectic daily life, large Latin American cities often have intense traffic, which encourages consumers to enjoy home delivery more than in other parts of the world, so we are excited to use our expertise in building online platforms to support and stimulate Mercadoni’s growth.”
Investment firm Axon Partners Group provided $2m of funding for Mercadoni through its Amerigo Pacific Ventures vehicle in early 2016, before joining diversified holding group Grupo Pegasus and undisclosed “high-profile retail investors” to invest $6.2m in May 2017.
