Chesapeake backs Wireless Seismic

Chesapeake Energy, a US-listed natural gas developer recently subject to stake building by debt investor Carl Icahn, has reinvested in geological surveyor Wireless Seismic’s $19.5m round.

Venture capital firm Energy Ventures joined Chesapeake in the round.

Roy Kligfield, executive president of Wireless Seismic, said: "Our real-time data return separates us from the rest of the cableless and nodal system providers and will provide substantial benefits in safety and quality and will lower operating costs to our customers."

Larry Lunardi, vice-president of geophysics for Chesapeake and a board member at Wireless, said it would start using Wireless Seismic’s "approach in our operations".

Separately, Gary Jones, a former chairman of another Energy Ventures-backed company, Novadrill, has stepped up to become chairman of Wireless.
