US-based network equipment supplier, Benu Networks, which is backed by the corporate venturing unit of telecommunications equipment company Motorola Mobility, has raised $27.7m in a series C round featuring Comcast Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of internet and cable company Comcast.
Liberty Global Ventures, the investment fund of cable services provider Liberty Global, telecommunications equipment manufacturer Arris Group, and venture capital firms Spark Capital and Sutter Hill Ventures also participated.
Benu is a telecommunications company which provides networking and software solutions for network operators supplying wifi and cloud services. The funding came as it announced the appointment of Dino Di Palma, who was previously at Acme Packet, as chief executive officer.
“The opportunity to lead the Benu Networks’ team in providing its innovative technology to the global market is compelling,” Di Palma said.
“Carriers globally, fixed and mobile, are investing in cutting edge technology that enables them to generate cloud-based value added services. Benu Networks is well positioned to deliver on this promise.”
In September 2013, Benu raised $26.6m in series B funding from Comcast Ventures, Sutter Hill Ventures and Spark Capital.
Benu previously raised an undisclosed amount in a 2011 sries A round featuring Motorola Mobility Ventures, the corporate venturing unit of smartphone producer Motorola Mobility, Comcast Ventures and Spark Capital.
