Intel plays with Digital Chocolate

Digital Chocolate, a US-based developer of games Millionaire City (pictured), MMA Pro Fighter, Rollercoaster Rush and Tower Bloxx, has raised $12m in its series D round led by Intel Capital, the corporate venturing unit of US-listed chip maker Intel.

Mike Buckley, managing director of the consumer internet sector of Intel Capital, said: "[Intel chose] to invest in Digital Chocolate because of its success across the fastest growing digital platforms and consumer electronics device categories."

Last year, Digital became one of the top five global games publishers on social network Facebook with more than 12 million monthly active users.

Venture capital (VC) firms BridgeScale Partners and Sutter Hill Ventures reinvested in the D round, which followed working capital being provided by lender Bridge Capital in June.

Digital’s C round closed in July 2007 at $22.5m from VCs Bridgescale Partners, Outlook Ventures, Montagu Newhall, DN Capital, Glynn Capital Management, WHI Capital, Sequoia Capital, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Sutter Hill Ventures and Chengwei Ventures to take its then total funding to $43.8m.
