US-based mobile commerce company Digby has raised $8m in its series C round from a consortium including BlackBerry Partners Fund, the corporate venturing fund of phone maker Research In Motion.
Venture capital firm Battery Ventures led the round, which also included peers S3 Ventures and Daylight Partners.
Pierre Donaldson, partner at BlackBerry Partners Fund, said: "Digby was one of the first companies we invested in when we started the BlackBerry Partners Fund in 2008, and we are thrilled to see how they have grown to become the market leader in enabling the mobile channel for top retail brands.
"Our enthusiasm continues around Digby based on the market reality that smartphones will be the device people will use to engage in an increasing array of activities."
BlackBerry previously invested in Digby’s $5.5m B round in October 2008.
Digby also re-sells its mobile service to phone operator AT&T’s retail customers, including mobile optimized websites and applications for the iPhone, Android and BlackBerry.
