Intel Capital, the corporate venturing unit of chip maker Intel, has invested more than $18m in six companies.
TOA Technologies, a US-based provider of mobile workforce management software, raised $17.2m in its series D round from Intel Capital and venture capital firms Sutter Hill Ventures, which led the round, Fort Washington Capital Partners and Draper Triangle Ventures.
In June 2008, TOA, which stands for time of arrival, raised $13m in its C round led by Intel Capital, the corporate venturing unit of semiconductor company Intel.
In India, Intel Capital said it would invest in PolicyBazaar.com, an online insurance-comparison site, and Sudhir Srivastava Robotics Surgery Center, which uses robotics in medical care and the first healthcare deal for Intel in the country. Intel Capital said it had spent 70% of its $250m Intel Capital India Technology Fund started in December 2005.
Arvind Sodhani, president of Intel Capital and executive vice-president of Intel (pictured), said: "Technology has been key to India‘s unprecedented development over the last few years, and our investments in these companies is proof of our ongoing commitment to nurture technology innovation in India."
Intel Capital will also make three follow-on investments in online travel company Yatra.com, software provider WSO2 and mobile media company July Systems. Intel Capital, with Sequoia Capital and Footprint Ventures, led the series C round for July Systems in July last year, which raised $7m.
WSO2 said it had raised $6.5m from Quest Software, which led the round, and Intel Capital.
Last year, Intel Capital invested $327m in 119 investments with about 44% of funds invested outside the US and Canada.
