Chevron cleans up with Novophage

Novophage, a US-based anti-bacterial company, has reportedly raised $5.75m from a consortium including oil major Chevron’s corporate venturing unit.

News provider Boston Globe said Chevron Technology Ventures had linked with venture capital firm Flybridge Capital (which had previously spun out from publisher International Data Group), incubator Founder Collective and conglomerate Kraft Group in Novophage’s round.

The start-up spun out of Massachusetts Institute of Technology uses phages to kill bacteria (pictured) and is now run by chief executive Micah Rosenbloom, a former executive at Brontes Technologies and Founder Collective.

Flybridge, then known as IDG Ventures Boston, had previously invested in Brontes, a dental implant company which industrial group 3M bought for $95m in 2006, and later took on its co-founder, Eric Paley as a senior adviser.
