Thunder Software Technology, a China-based company that helps equipment makers develop products on the Android open source mobile phone standard, has raised RMB100m ($15.5m) from a consortium including two corporate venturing units.
UK-listed chip maker ARM and technology equipment maker Qualcomm invested in Thunder alongside venture capital firms Northern Light Venture Capital and Casrich Fund.
Thunder’s product line is based on the Android system, including one-stop customizable solutions for smartphone, Android system for tablet, internet television and set-top boxes.
James Shen, vice-president of business development for Qualcomm, said: "The smartphone market is seeing tremendous growth, and as a leading mobile chipset solution provider, Qualcomm is helping drive this momentum." Bruce Beckloff, vice-president of corporate business development at ARM, added: "ARM has been working with Thundersoft for a number of years. The organization is a perfect fit for ARM’s investment model as we seek to enable markets and communities around the ARM architecture."
