US-based software developer SweetLabs closed a series C funding round worth $13m, led by corporate venturing unit Intel Capital yesterday. Also participating were Google’s corporate venturing division, Google Ventures, and venture capital firm Bessemer Venture Partners.
Founded in 2008, SweetLabs creates products that aid software developers, the first being the advertising network OpenCandy. Open Candy attracted $5m of series B financing in April 2010 from Google Ventures, Bessmer and O’Reilly Alpha Tech Ventures (OATV).
OATV, the corporate venturing unit of the US-based media corporation O’Reilly Media, and Bessemer initially provided $3.5 of series A funding for OpenCandy, in 2008.
SweetLabs will use the cash from the most recent round to expand OpenCandy, as well as growing Pokki, a platform that developers can use to create applications for desktop devices. Pokki was launched in beta form in June.
Marc Yi, managing director at Intel Capital, said: "The SweetLabs strategy aligns well with Intel’s computing vision. Pokki has the potential to reinvent the PC experience and help unify an ecosystem where users interact with rich, always-on apps across all their platforms and devices. We are delighted and look forward to working with the SweetLabs team to contribute to their continued success."
