ClearSky Data, a US-based data storage and recovery technology provider backed by content delivery software producer Akamai, has secured $20m in funding from new and existing investors.
The round included an unnamed technology provider in addition to Pear Tree Partners, General Catalyst, Highland Capital Partners and Polaris Partners, and took the company’s total funding to $59.4m.
Founded in 2014, ClearSky provides software that offers primary storage in addition to offsite backup and disaster recovery options, allowing users to access data either in the cloud or on premises. The funding will go to sales and commercialisation activities.
Akamai invested in the company’s $27m series B round in late 2015, three months after it emerged from stealth. Polaris Partners led the round, which included General Catalyst and Highland Capital, the two investors that had supplied $12.4m for ClearSky’s 2014 series A round.
