Vincent Pieterson, formerly a managing director at RTL Ventures, Luxembourg-based media company RTL Group’s corporate venturing arm, co-founded asset management firm Averest Capital in September this year.
As a managing partner at Averest Capital, Pieterson will be responsible for deal execution, strategy, innovation and sustainability for its portfolio companies.
The €30m ($34m) fund will invest in Netherlands-based agritech, biotech, construction and retail businesses in the middle market. Each transaction will be between €5m and €10m.
Prior to setting up Averest, Pieterson took an M&A adviser position at RTL Ventures in 2012, before being promoted to a managing director role in 2016 to oversee investments in e-commerce companies and healthcare and educational technology developers.
The deals he led include investments in online furniture retailer Flinders, online healthcare network operator Solvo and gamified education platform developer Squla, where he also held a board seat.
Squla was acquired for an undisclosed amount by investment firm Levine Leichtman in June this year, through a leveraged buyout organised by the company’s founder and chief executive, Serge Bueters.
Pieterson began his career as an investor at business advisory firm BDO’s Netherlands-based branch, where he was recruited as a junior adviser in 2005 and later appointed M&A manager. At Averest, he will join forces with another BDO veteran, Albert Koops, who was a Netherlands-based managing director at the firm for 16 years.
