Health information and technology company Remedy Health Media acquired US-based online health resource HealthCentral on Tuesday for an undisclosed amount.
HealthCentral had raised $53.1m in February 2008 from internet company Interactive Corp., Carlyle Venture Partners, and venture capital firms Polaris Venture Partners and Sequoia Capital.
Carlyle, Polaris and Sequoia previously participated in a $6m round the year before, while boutique investment bank Allen & Company is also an investor.
Combining HealthCentral’s online properties with their own print media publishing and distribution services, Remedy now operates a health media company that spans doctor’s offices, pharmacies, computers and mobile devices, and expects to reach 150 million customers each year.
Mike Cunnion, chief executive officer of Remedy, said: "With the acquisition of HealthCentral, we’ve dramatically increased our online reach, sales capacity and our ability to create industry leading health information and technology applications. The combination creates exciting opportunities to provide even more value to our audiences, customers and strategic partners."
