US-based wireless networking software company Connectify secured financing on September 28th from In-Q-Tel (IQT), the venturing fund belonging to the US Central Intelligence Agency. The amount invested by In-Q-Tel was not disclosed.
Connectify previously raised just under $1m in funding, in October 2004, under its previous name of Nomadio. Nomadio’s most significant achievement was developing technology used for unmanned, remote-controlled bomb disposal vehicles for use by the military.
In contrast, Connectify’s software allows users to create a hotspot for wireless internet on their PCs, enabling additional devices to access the internet through that hotspot without dialling into a central location.
William Strecker, chief technology officer of IQT, said: "Our strategic partnership with Connectify will provide our U.S. Intelligence Community customers with access to the most advanced wireless networking software available. Connectify’s experience bringing wireless networking applications to the private-sector provides the foundation necessary to further this cutting-edge technology."
