McKelvey kits up for LockerDome

LockerDome, a US-based social networking website focused around sporting activities, named Jim McKelvey, a co-founder of mobile payments company Square, as an investor on Tuesday as it welcomed him to its board of directors.

LockerDome closed a $750,000 seed round on December 22nd from marketing agency Moosylvania Marketing and several additional angel investors.

The idea behind Lockerdome’s social network is to link amateur athletes across the US and enable them to launch their own sub-networks based around their teams or leagues with access also granted to ex-members. Lockerdome is using the funding to expand their service into the consumer market, and is now making membership available to any athlete, coach, scout or fan regardless of whether they belong to a sporting program already using the site.

McKelvey said: "LockerDome is the real deal. A superb team of dedicated people and a product that grows organically. When I saw the mattresses in the office, I knew this was a great company."

According to LockerDome’s press release, Square has raised a total of $168m since its inception.
