Ernest Fung has left his position as Hong Kong-based senior director and head of international corporate development at Nasdaq-listed e-commerce firm JD.com.
Fung joined China-headquartered JD.com in 2014 and focused on mergers and acquisitions and venture deals for startups developing e-commerce, financial, logistics and retail technologies.
Two months prior to Fung’s departure, JD.com participated in a $120m series A round for connected vehicle technology developer Mogu Zhixing, and co-led the $1bn first tranche of Indonesia-based on-demand ride platform Go-Jek’s series F round.
Fung was a Global Corporate Venturing Rising Star in 2018 and 2019, and was also included in GCV’s 2018 Powerlist. He was a director of technology, media and telecommunications investment banking at financial services firm Citigroup for a decade before joining JD.com.
Fung said: “It has been a great honour to have spent the last four and a half years at JD, where I have worked alongside dedicated colleagues and met amazing partners, investors, and friends. As I embark on my next chapter, I look forward to continuing to work with great companies and entrepreneurs in the region.”
No successor has been named and Fung did not respond to a request for comment on his next step.
