Sports Tech Tokyo selects first cohort

Sports Tech Tokyo, a Japan-based sports technology accelerator launched jointly by marketing group Dentsu and venture capital firm Scrum Ventures in October 2018, has announced its first batch of 12 finalists.

The startups will join the three-month program at the end of May 2019 and will receive business development advice from sports business specialists and corporates including Itochu, Sony Music Entertainment, Microsoft Japan and CBC.

The initiative will include a demo day taking place on August 20 where the participants will showcase the technologies developed to investors, media and corporates in attendance.

The participant list includes US-based 360-degree sports video provider 4DReplay, athlete-focused biotech developer Fitbiomics, brand personalisation technology producer Misapplied Sciences and sports highlight management system developer Reely.

Two more US-based startups – mobile sports video platform developer SportsCastr and women’s physical training app Wild Technologies – were joined by Israel-based multi-camera filming system developer Pixellot and Ventus/Whooop, the Japan-based creator of a platform where users can trade digital sports cards.

The batch was completed by DataPowa, the UK-based developer of a valuation platform for sports sponsorships, India-based fan engagement software provider Edisn AI, Spain-based venue management technology developer Mobile Media Content and Finland-based training management software startup Omegawave.
