UK-based facial recognition technology developer Realeyes has collected $12.4m in a funding round co-led by NTT Docomo Ventures, an investment vehicle for mobile network operator NTT Docomo.
Venture capital firm Draper Esprit co-led the round, which also featured Global Brain, Karma Ventures and The Entrepreneurs Fund.
Founded in 2007, Realeyes has developed software that leverages computer vision and machine learning technology to help brands leverage webcams and smartphone cameras to measure the emotional response of sample audiences to online content.
In addition to driving growth in the US and Europe, Middle East and Africa, the company will use the proceeds to expand into additional segments outside of marketing.
Draper Esprit led Realeyes’ $16.2m series A round in May 2018, investing together with Karma Ventures, Harbert European Growth Capital, Tera Ventures and Entrepreneurs Fund.
The company had raised $3.2m from and Entrepreneurs Fund and SmartCap in 2013, and received a $4.2m grant from the European Union Commission two years later.
