Caterwings swallows Lemoncat in acquisition deal

Lemoncat, a Germany-based corporate catering marketplace backed by internet group Rocket Internet, has been acquired by peer Caterwings, Deutsche Startups reported on Monday.

Financial terms of the deal were not revealed, though a source told TechCrunch it was an eight-figure, all-share deal that gave Lemoncat’s backers shares in B2B Food Group, Caterwings’ parent company which is itself owned by Rocket Internet.

The transaction was concluded alongside a €5m ($5.9m) investment in B2B Group by Lemoncat’s shareholders: Rocket Internet, Target Global, Point Nine Capital, Northzone and private investor Lukasz Gadowski.

Founded in 2016, Lemoncat operates an online marketplace where businesses can purchase catering services ranging from office buffets to food trucks. It has facilitated catered events in more than 285 cities across Germany to date.

The company had received $6.6m in funding from Northzone in April 2017, adding to $3.3m secured from Rocket Internet, Point Nine, Target Global and Gadowski the year before.
