Skyroam picks up another $20m

Skyroam, a US-based wifi provider backed by automation system manufacturer Delta Electronics, has completed a $20m series C2 round co-led by Mesh Ventures and Phi Ventures.

Premier Ventures, Vickers Venture, Jafco Ventures and GSR Ventures also took part in the round. The latter three had already backed a $20m series C1 round in March 2018 that included Delta subsidiary Delta Electronics Capital and China Broadband Capital.

Skyroam has created a mobile wifi hotspot that enables travellers to access wifi coverage from a network of more than 200 wifi carrier partners across the world, paying for it on a daily basis.

The round increased the company’s overall funding to $73.5m. Electronics producer Lenovo led its $23.5m series B round in 2015, investing with GSR Ventures, Vickers Venture and China Broadband Capital and various individual participants.

GSR was one of the investors that had already supplied $10m in seed and series A funding for Skyroam. It will use the series C2 proceeds to expand its smartphone and internet-of-things product offering.
