Life360 turns on Zenlabs

Zenlabs, a US-based screen time management software developer backed by internet browser publisher Otello, has been acquired by family communication software tool company Life360 for an undisclosed sum.

Founded in 2017, Zenlabs offers an artificial intelligence-equipped software app called Zenscreen that lets parents set limits on the length of time users are allowed to be on digital devices such as smartphones and tablets.

Zenscreen can be calibrated to administer varying restrictions depending on time of day and the type of app being used, with the idea being to help reduce screen time for children.

Life360 meanwhile markets software tools designed to help families keep in touch, including location sharing and group messaging.

Otello – then known as Opera Software –  joined assorted angel investors to supply $700,000 of seed money to ZenScreen in May 2018. The startup was founded by Nitin Bhandari, former senior-vice president for consumer apps at Opera.
