OnCorps-backed SkySQL, a database services provider, has hired Patrik Sallner as chief executive (CEO) while raising $2.5m.
Sallner previously spent two years as vice-president of professional services at F-Secure, where he built the cloud storage business with communication service providers globally.
Ulf Sandberg, the incumbent CEO of Finland-based SkySQL, will now serve as president, leading the company’s operations in the Americas.
Venture capital firm California Technology Ventures invested the $2.5m to extend the series A round that closed at $4m last month.
Last month, OnCorps, an analytic and user-controlled social networking platform, which secured backing from venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz last year, helped SkySQL raise $4m.
OnCorps was joined in the series A round by state investment company Finnish Industry Investment and venture firms Spintop Ventures and Open Ocean Capital. SkySQL said it would primarily use the investment to fund growth in its product development. SkySQL was started in October 2010 and has been funded with seed money from OnCorps, as well as Open Ocean Capital. It is operating in 13 countries.
