Germany-based online dental care access platform developer Dentolo has been acquired by insurance firm Zurich for an undisclosed amount, providing an exit for media group Axel Springer.
Founded in 2015, Dentolo operates a platform where patients can book dental appointments with a network of about 500 medical professionals across Germany. It includes a tool to calculate prices and offers consultations before and after procedures.
The company claims to offer considerable cost savings which it passes on to patients. Zurich will use the platform to drive an expansion of its online insurance subsidiary, DA Direkt, into the dental market but Dentolo will continue to operate as a standalone brand.
Dentolo had raised $3.5m from Axel Springer’s seed-stage investment arm, Axel Springer Plug and Play Accelerator, as well as Yabeo Capital, IBB Beteiligungsgesellschaft, Atlantic Labs and assorted private investors in 2017.
