Game.tv presses start with $25m

Game.tv, the US-based creator of an esports tournament platform, has completed a $25m funding round led by Intel Capital, semiconductor and data technology producer Intel’s corporate venture capital subsidiary.

Gaming analytics firm Niko Partners has also invested in the company, and although it has not confirmed the identity of any other backers, its website states that they include strategic partners, game developers and five Silicon Valley-based VC firms.

Founded in 2018 by mobile app player developer BlueStacks, Game.tv has developed an online platform called Tourney that utilises artificial intelligence to allow players to run their own gaming tournaments from start to finish.

The product is available on a web application as well as gaming communication platform Discord and social media platforms Facebook and Twitter. It is compatible with more than 60 titles and allows existing communities to operate their own tournaments on any scale.

Intel Capital managing director Arun Chetty said: “When Game.tv’s platform crossed 10,000 tournaments in a short period of time, we sensed something big was going on here.

“As a big supporter of both esports and emerging technologies, Intel is always looking for ways to accelerate adoption of esports. We believe that Game.tv has a unique vision and technology and with this funding, they can gain a big piece of the esports market segment.”
