Enterprise software producer Twilio has acquired Teravoz, a Brazil-based voice-communication software developer backed by telecoms firm Telefónica, for an undisclosed sum, Startups.com.br has reported.
Founded in 2014, Teravoz has developed application programming interfaces (APIs) for voice communication. Its cloud-based system facilitates connection between users’ telephone network and apps such as enterprise messaging service platform Slack and customer service software provider Zendesk.
Teravoz will rebrand to Twilio Brazil post-acquisition, according to Contxto, which reported that Twilio will incorporate the company’s technology to its API offerings.
Paulo Braga, a Global Corporate Venturing Rising Star in 2019, said he had overseen Telefónica subsidiary Wayra Brasil’s participation in a 2017 round of undisclosed size for Teravoz deal alongside venture capital firm Canary.
Renato Valente, Wayra’s Brazil-based country manager, said: “Teravoz was the type of startup that had the perfect fit to be part of our open innovation hub, thanks mainly to the synergies with [Brazil-based Telefónica subsidiary] Vivo’s business.
“Teravoz’s exit not only gave Wayra a 30-time return but also represents new business opportunities for Vivo in Brazil and Telefónica in the world. It is excellent for everyone involved.” (Translated from Portuguese by Global Corporate Venturing)
