Active.ai chats up CreditEase for series A

Singapore-based chatbot developer Active.ai has raised $8.3m in a series A round featuring online lender CreditEase, Tech in Asia reported on Tuesday.

Venture capital firm Vertex Ventures led the round, with participation from IDG Ventures, which forms part of the IDG Capital VC family, VC firm Kalaari Capital and consultancy firm Dream Incubator.

Active.ai has developed a customer service chatbot powered by artificial intelligence. The product, which is aimed at the banking sector, uses natural language processing to respond to customer queries in messaging apps such as Facebook Messenger.

The company had previously secured $3m from IDG Ventures and Kalaari Capital in December 2016. It was among 14 companies selected to participate in software provider Microsoft’s India accelerator in March this year.
