Germany-based healthcare app developer Ada Health has raised €40m ($46.5m) in a series A round led by diversified conglomerate Access Industries, Handelsblatt reported yesterday.
The round included June Fund, Cumberland VC and William Tunstall-Pedoe, founder of artificial intelligence (AI) software developer Evi Technologies, which was acquired by e-commerce firm Amazon in 2012 to power its personal assistant Alexa.
Ada Health has developed a mobile app that features an AI assistant called Ada that asks users questions about their symptoms to ascertain what condition they are suffering from and suggest treatments.
Initially available only in English, the app has now launched in German as well, and Ada plans to add Hindi, Spanish and Portuguese in a future update, as well as a tool with the ability to detect several rare conditions.
Tunstall-Pedoe will offer his insight into how the company can perfect its AI technology so that users will be able to have full conversations with Ada.
The series A capital will fund the opening of a US office and the recruitment of engineers, scientists and medical advisors, Ada CEO Daniel Nathrath told Business Insider.
Ada Health had previously closed an undisclosed amount of angel funding, according to multiple reports, though further details could not be ascertained.
Guillaume d’Hauteville, vice-chairman of Access Industries, said: “Ada is one of the most exciting companies we’ve seen cutting across health and artificial intelligence.
“They have developed a unique and highly effective health management solution driven by a team with deep medical and AI expertise and years of technology development.
“Ada is setting a new standard for health management, and we look forward to partnering with them on this next stage of their journey.”
