Advanced Animal Diagnostics spots $11m

A decade after launching, Advanced Animal Diagnostics (AAD), a US-based company to spot diseases in the world’s 1.5 billion cattle, has raised $11m in its series B round from a consortium including drugs company Novartis’ corporate venturing unit.

Venture capital firm Intersouth Partners led the B round consortium, which included Novartis Venture Partners.

Simon Wheeler, managing director at Novartis Venture Fund, said: "With its new technology, AAD will bring significant benefits to the dairy industry and enhance food production worldwide."

Formed in 2001, AAD was incubated at Becton Dickinson’s BD Technologies BioVenture Center in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, and raised $1.1m from angel investors in it’s A round.
