US-based household robot developer Aeolus Robotics Corporation has raised $20m from investors including nursing care providers Gakken Cocofump, Medical Care Service Company and Saint-Care Holding Corporation.
Aeolus has created artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning-equipped robots that can perform specific domestic tasks. It began mass production of the Aeolus robots in November this year.
The company is partnering all three corporate investors in the series A round in order to enter the elderly care sector. The robots can autonomously transport and protect care equipment, helping caregivers reduce physical burdens and increase productivity.
Aeolus is also considering targeting other industries such as hospitality, healthcare and security in a bid to improve Japan’s labour shortages. Its technology is currently distributed by partners Marubun and Carebot.
