Afya takes care of iClinic purchase

Afya Participações, a subsidiary of medical education provider Afya, has acquired iClinic, a Brazil-based digital medical record technology provider backed by telecommunications firm SoftBank, for approximately R$183m ($32.7m).

Founded in 2012, iClinic has developed a software-as-a-service management system for clinics and doctor’s offices. It organises patients’ information and data by digitising their everyday routine, enabling healthcare providers to boost productivity and improve their services.

The company had raised an undisclosed amount of series B funding from SoftBank in August this year, at which time it had announced its plans to conduct a merger and acquisition transaction.

Afya CEO Virgílio Gibbon said: “With the acquisition of iClinic to our platform, Afya is making another step to become the one stop shop for physicians in Brazil. Now besides medical and health education courses and a clinical decisions app, we enter into a new segment that can help physicians manage their clinics and provide a better service to their patients.”
