Airbnb validates Tiqets’ $60m series C

Short-term accommodation rental service Airbnb led a $60m series C round today for Netherlands-based online ticketing platform Tiqets that included private equity firm HPE Growth Capital and growth equity firm Investion.

Founded in 2014, Tiqets runs an online ticketing service that lets users purchase instant and last-minute entrance to museums and attractions like the Eiffel Tower in Paris or the British Museum in London, in addition to activities such as canal cruises in Amsterdam.

The company has expanded into 69 countries to date and covers more than 2,000 venues. The series C capital will help it speed up growth, improve customer experience and introduce more efficient tools for venues to manage bookings.

Philippe Magid, Airbnb’s art and culture director, said: “Travellers are seeking out a diverse range of experiences when they visit a new city. The Tiqets team has effectively used new technology to connect travellers to communities and we are excited to support their work.”

Tiqets has now secured more than $105m in funding altogether. HPE Growth Capital led a $23m round in November 2018, investing together with unnamed existing shareholders.

The company received $17m in a 2017 series B round also led by HPE that followed a $4m series A round led by Capital Mills the previous year. Investion had provided $450,000 in seed funding for Tiqets in January 2015, before private investors added $1m the following month.
