US-based commercial drone technology company Airware, which counts Google among its backers, has raised $25m in a series B round featuring venture capital firms Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Andreessen Horowitz and First Round Capital.
A product of incubators Lemnos Labs and Y Combinator, Airware creates hardware, software and a cloud platform for commercial drone development and operation. The funding will be used to prepare for the company’s commercial launch later this year.
Airware raised $12.2m in a May 2013 series A round from Google Ventures, the corporate venturig arm of internet company Google, alongside Andreessen Horowitz, First Round Capital and Felicis Ventures.
Google, First Round Capital. RRE Ventures, Firelake Capital, Shasta Ventures, Promous Ventures and Y Combinator previously contributed to a $3m seed round raised by the company in March 2013.
