Ajinomoto gets a taste of first cohort

Ajinomoto Group Accelerator, a startup accelerator owned by Japan-based amino acid-based seasoning producer Ajinomoto, has selected six teams for its first batch.

Organic cookie dough provider Coloridoh, silkworm-based food producer Ellie and Hakken, the creator of a numbered ticket issuing platform, were among the participants.

The roster was filled out by Greenspoon, which provides a smoothie subscription service; TechMagic, a manufacturer of artificial intelligence (AI)-equipped cooking and industrial robots; and Lyxis, an elderly care consultancy and service provider.

Ajinomoto teamed up with incubator and accelerator operator 01Booster to form Ajinomoto Group Accelerator in June 2020. The initiative targets internet-of-things and AI technology-enabled startups as well as projects focused on food and healthcare sectors.

The programme will run for five months leading up to a demo day set to take place in May 2021. In addition to a ¥100,000 ($960) prize, each company will be eligible for equity funding upon completion.
