Allegis joins corporate-backed DataTribe

US-based startup studio DataTribe added venture capital firm Allegis Capital to a list of strategic partners including consulting firm Deloitte and internet company Yahoo Japan on Tuesday.

DataTribe aims to form and build startups based on US government R&D projects, working on two or three each year. It will license and commercialise technology from government R&D projects that will be developed through making it open source or hiring engineers.

The studio is concentrating its efforts on Silicon Valley and the Beltway area around Washington DC, which has 3.5 times as many cybersecurity engineers as the rest of the country put together according to the US Bureau of Labor.

The strategic partners, all of which have interests in cybersecurity, data and analytics, will help DataTribe assess potential opportunities for startups and will assist with executive recruitment, product roadmaps and commercial validation.
