Andela recruits GV for $24m series B

Andela, a US-based, Africa-focused IT recruitment company, secured $24m in series B funding from investors including GV, the corporate venturing unit formerly known as Google Ventures, on Thursday.

The round was led by Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, the impact investment fund set up by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan. It also included Spark Capital, Omidyar Network, Learn Capital and CRE Ventures, according to Forbes.

Andela provides coaching to the top programming talent emerging from Africa before linking them to firms in the US. It has so far received more than 40,000 applications.

Jeremy Johnson, founder and CEO of Andela, said in a blog post: “We are humbled to partner with folks who helped drive some of the most impactful innovation in the history of tech, and we’re grateful to have the financial support to continue building the movement that is Andela.”

The round follows a $14.7m series A round in June 2015 featuring Omidyar and Learn Capital, both of which contributed to a 2014 seed round of undisclosed size, as well as Spark and CRE.
