US-based loyalty program platform AppCard raised $20m on Friday in a series B round co-led by PLDT Capital, the corporate venturing division of telecommunications firm Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company.
Alexander Rittweger co-led the round, which included Founders Fund, Innovation Endeavors and Jerry Yang also took part.
AppCard has developed a service for small and medium-sized enterprises to create personalised offers for customers. The number of promotions increases the more a user shops at a store, while data can also be shared with other stores to gain access to offers from similar retailers.
To generate the offers, AppCard analyses receipts through a small device fitted to the store’s till that sends data to the company’s servers alongside user details that are entered through swiping a loyalty card, typing in a phone number or tapping the phone.
AppCard will use the money to increase its technology offering and boost its sales efforts. It previously raised $6.5m in a series A round that included Founders Fund, Innovation Endeavors, Jerry Yang and Simon Levy. The round was reported in 2013, but reportedly closed in 2012.
