Artificial intelligence technology provider Appier has paid an undisclosed sum to acquire Japan-based consumer analysis software developer Emotional Intelligence (Emin) in a deal that enabled internet company Digital Garage to exit.
Founded in 2011, Emin has created a software platform that utilises artificial intelligence to predict which e-commerce customers are likely to follow through and buy an item, and which could be tipped toward a purchase through a special offer.
The company’s ZenClerk app will be rebranded as AiDeal and used to help Appier’s clients strengthen customer engagement.
Appier chief executive Chih-Han Yu said: “Shopping cart abandonment is a big problem for online retailers – if not the most challenging of all – and one that we are committed to solving. It was clear from our first meeting with Emin that its technology is a perfect solution for this.
“Both organisations strive to provide clients with cutting-edge AI capabilities that drive business growth, and together we will continue to deliver product excellence and make AI more powerful for and accessible to our customers in Japan and beyond.”
Digital Garage contributed to a $3.2m round for Emin in 2015 through its DG Incubation subsidiary, alongside Lead Capital Management and Social Starts.
