Mobile advertising platform Opera Mediaworks has purchased Germany-based mobile advertising company Apprupt for an undisclosed sum, giving an exit to backers including T-Venture, the corporate venturing subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom.
T-Venture, development bank KfW and venture capital fund Neuhaus Partners invested in two rounds raised by Apprupt, in May 2010 and September 2011, though Apprupt declined to disclose the funding amounts for either round.
Opera acquired Apprupt in order to expand its presence in the German mobile advertising market, but the deal will also provide Apprupt’s 22 million users with additional capabilities. Apprupt’s media clients include Bauer, IDG and Tomorrow Focus Media.
“Germany is an important and fast-growing mobile ad market and is expected to reach $1.8 billion by 2017,” explained Opera Mediaworks CEO Mahi de Silva. “Integrating Apprupt into our platform will help us grow our reach into this important territory, giving our clients even broader global reach for mobile advertising.
